Survivor 24, A Guinea Pig, And Valentine's '12

Women of Salani tribe. Survivor: One World. (c) CBS, Monty Brinton, 2011. Ahhhh. There's so much to talk about today! First and foremost, tonight is the premiere for Survivor: One World--season 24 , a nd I can't wait--because this season has some great twists.  Redemption Island is gone. The the tribes are separated men vs. women. Hidden Immunity idols have a different "way" of being played (once you find one, it has to be given to someone on the OTHER tribe).  And my most favorite twist: the two tribes are living on ONE beach.  I think the idea of living on the same beach just makes sense, and I would have loved that during our season--because I think it will really help the castaways have a better "read" on ALL of the players. I think  this one twist makes the long game REALLY interesting.  Think of all that Upolu camp life that we/Savaii didn't even know about until the show aired? Brandon and Mikayla? More about Christ...

A Perfect Love

Need to learn how to cite these (from Pinterest). Happy Valentine's Day! First things first:  I support a healthy lifestyle; all things in moderation. BUT ... shouldn't Valentine's Day be the one day where calories don't count? I'm just sayin'. Really people ... let's LIVE a little. Okay now,  how are you spending your Valentine's Day? Me? Well, we're listening to love songs, delivering Valentines, baking bread, and making heart-shaped pizzas (See, my "Calories Don't Count Today" plan is in full-effect.) . . . Oh, and of course our 17 yo son is going out on a Valentine's Group Date. What the what?  Our son is old enough to have a real-life Valentine? Yup.  And I blame myself for all of this: See what happens when a mother of 6  leaves the country for the summer to find herself play a game? The kids start dating! I mean, really. I wish I'd realized this before I left for Survivor, but  Da...

Lay Your Burden Down

Image
(c) Google images, 2012. I hope today's blogpost doesn't seem to churchy or Pollyanna . (If so, head over to The Onion and read some great satire.) I just feel really strongly about saying this: If you're carrying a burden, and it's just too heavy, lay it down for a bit. --Set it on the side of the "metaphorical road." --Give it to a friend to carry for a while. --Have someone HELP you carry it for a bit. --Or get rid of it all together.  Because if there's one thing that my experience on Survivor taught me, it's that 99.9% of the world is filled with people willing, longing, and hoping to share life with other people. So, even if your spouse, mother, sister, brother, coworker or doctor don't seem to be able to ease your burden ... somewhere in your universe, there's a person who can. Now, I realize I speak in metaphors WAY too often, but for me, they are the best teaching tools.  When I picture my burdens as b...

And Away We Go!

Well, there's still a lot to adjust, tweak, modify, and add, but here it is: The relaunch of The Deseret Housewife. What do you think? One feature I do like: the sorting feature. You can now sort posts by date, label, author, etc. (And I began labeling today! Not sure we'll backlog, but maybe when time avails.) Lemme know. That is, if we can leave comments using the new layout. I have NO IDEA? (Is that hilarious? Eeek!) PS: Why the new layout? As my husband and I talked about sites we love (to model this one after), we both agreed: the websites with a focus on IMAGES are the ones we love to visit again and again. So, it only made sense to lean toward a mosaic-type layout. PPS:  Survivor content will be up Monday. As well as my fitness regime.
