One Down, One to Go!

It's bday week here on Hysteria Lane! (ZuZu's yesterday; Dave's on Thursday.)

And ZuZu had an AWESOME 8th birthday!


She got a ZhuZhu Pet. (That's funny now that I think of it: a ZhuZhu for ZuZu.)

Chocolate-Chocolate Cake. (Homemade by Jr. and Cam.)




For the Digital Time Capsule:

It was a great bday. We love turning eight! ZuZU opened gifts (picked out by Papaya), had a pancake breakfast, went to school, played the Wii, got checked out for lunch with LuLu (to go to Quiznos), came home to a homework-free afternoon (our decision, not her teacher's--LOL!), had our 2010 bday dinner tradition of  hamburgers (grilled by Jay), chips, and soda . . .

and then blew out the candles on her chocolate/chocolate birthday cake!

(PS: And I think my favorite part of the day--LuLu seemed AS excited as ZuZu to celebrate the day. How nice is that? A sister that loves your bday as much as you do. I love that.)

Women of Salani tribe. Survivor: One World. (c) CBS, Monty Brinton, 2011. Ahhhh. There's so much to talk about today! First and foremost, tonight is the premiere for Survivor: One World--season 24 , a nd I can't wait--because this season has some great twists.  Redemption Island is gone. The the tribes are separated men vs. women. Hidden Immunity idols have a different "way" of being played (once you find one, it has to be given to someone on the OTHER tribe).  And my most favorite twist: the two tribes are living on ONE beach.  I think the idea of living on the same beach just makes sense, and I would have loved that during our season--because I think it will really help the castaways have a better "read" on ALL of the players. I think  this one twist makes the long game REALLY interesting.  Think of all that Upolu camp life that we/Savaii didn't even know about until the show aired? Brandon and Mikayla? I Heart Summertime!

Is there anything better than time with a book you love? (PS: Jr. loves to read, but I'm pretty sure this scenario was staged. He was teasing me about loving reading more than video games. If we look closely, the book may even be upside down. And it's on Pompei!) Turns out it's always summer when you're a housecat! Bam and Papaya on the kayak at the lake near our home. (Our community lets us check these out for use. It is so cool.) I love cooking in the summer--tho my pesto was only medium. I haven't mastered the recipe. I love coconuts. (Even after Survivor. Heck, BECAUSE of Survivor.) Bam is probably the most creative person I know. I was never like this as a kid--and I love that she is. Zu went to visit Janae's Service Hamster, Silver. The running joke between us all: I'd like Janae's family to get a service dog. Janae thinks her hamster fills the bill. "Silver-the-Hamster calms people," she claims....

To Do Lists

Met this guy Saturday while Dave and I were visiting a working farm in our area. Hilarious. I mean, turkeys are seriously trippy looking. For as long as I can remember I have been a To Do List kinda person. I make a list for myself each morning. I make a list for our kids (well, now that they are older, it's not so much a list as a calendar). And I make a HUGE list on our chalkboard wall each Sunday night with the BIG events, appointments, holidays or due dates for our family. I'm not sure why, but there's just something that makes me more calm/happy about seeing things on a list.  Now before you say "Oh, that's a Type A Personality thing" or "Lists are for X kinda person," l et me just say this: the lists aren't about achieving something, and  I usually don't panic if I can't complete everything them, t he lists just help me feel some calm and control in a world that is fairly detailed and often UNCONTROLLABLE.
