Survivor Postlude: Not Carter!

Okay, I have to be quick today; it's the last day of classes at BYU (prior to finals week) and 24 hours isn't nearly enough time to do all I need to do!

 BUT, I did want to say a few things about last night's episode of Survivor (Philippines):

 1. NO! Not Carter.
For some reason, I started to really really like Carter after the merge. He's strong in challenges, he seems kind, and he's funny. BUT, that's exactly WHY he had to go last night. I can see why Malcolm, Denise, Skupin and Lisa don't want to sit next to him at the end. (Did he upset anyone on the jury? Uh, no.) PS: His visit with his mom was so sweet. He seems like such a good son, don't you think?

 2. Praying in the game.
I'm never comfortable with the public prayers on Survivor. 

 I don't have much to say here, other than it just seems awkward. (Maybe that means my own faith is one I hide under a bushel? I dunno.) 

 Survivor South Pacific taught me how genuinely precious freedom of religion is--because when a dominant group says, "Pray with us," you feel so obligated to do so. It takes your freedom of thought/agency out of the equation. And that's not to say I don't pray/have faith in a force that guides the universe, it's just to say, I really want people to be feel like they can be themselves--regardless of their belief. Even in/on Survivor. Especially on Survivor.

 3. Abi is hanging on!
My affection for Abi is really growing. I don't know what she was like to live with, and I trust Denise/Malcolm when they say she's been extremely difficult. But, I admire her perseverance. Survivor is such a difficult experience. You are emotionally, physically, and spiritually depleted as you play. The fact that she is hanging on amidst ZERO support says a great deal about her character/determination. She is one strong woman.

 4. It's almost finale' time.
The final episode of Survivor Philippines will air on Sunday, December 16th. Who do you think will win? I don't see how Malcolm or Denise can lose--and that makes me happy. I think they've both played incredible games.

When The Flu Comes To Town ...

Even Harriet-the-dog threw up this weekend. What the what? Well, if there's anything positive about having the flu, it's having it over a weekend--so you can truly REST from your work/school/etc. Right? Uh, sure. Poor Bam, Dave, Zu and even Harriet-the-dog each caught a weird cold/flu-type thing that had them "down for the count" this weekend. It was awful. I was teasing Dave, but I'm not sure if it's worse to be the one with the flu--or the mom to the ones with the flu. Eeek! (We're talking a lot of laundry and disinfectant. If you're picking up what I'm layin' down.) Hopefully they will be on the mend here soon. And hopefully, the remaining non-flu family members have used enough Purell to keep us germ-free. Crossing my fingers. Hope your weekend was 'smarvelous. ***** PS: Booo. BYU lost this weekend. (Yay if you are a Ute fan--Liz B.) Recipe: Survivor South Pacific's " Ponderosa Caramel Banana Pancakes"

It's taken me a year to get the recipe (literally).  But here it is:  Chef Simon's  Survivor South Pacific  Ponderosa Caramel Banana Pancakes Ingredients Equal quantities of:  Soft fine dark brown sugar Unsalted Butter Full cream Sliced bananas (say bah-nah-na w/ an Australian accent please) Hot pancakes  Directions 1. Combine butter and sugar together over low heat,  2. Add cream stir with wooden spoon till combined  3. Add sliced bananas. 4. Slowly heat; don't boil. 5. Add to hot pancakes and e njoy !
