It's Time to Detox . . . and Exfoliate!

When I woke up this morning and had one thought:

It's time to detox.

And I think the launch of the holiday season seems to be the best time to do that.

Don't you? (Ha.)

Well, I'm not so sure about that.

But rather than just "throw in the towel" and let the holiday buffet roll me over, I think I'm simply going to try to be more mindful of how I'm fueling my body.

So, here's my plan, I call it,

My "Be More Mindful of How You Fuel Your Body Over The Holidays Plan"

(That's a clear and limiting title if I ever heard one.)

What exactly does it mean?

Well, bear with me.

I'm not a dietician (but I play one on my blog), so I'm piecing together said-plan using 3 years of college life science courses, a shelf full of library books, a few O! Magazine articles, and a ton of here-say from friends. (Sounds like solid research to me. Don't you agree? *smile*)

And so far, here's what I've come up with: A realistic tailor-made plan for me. (Disclaimer: This isn't advice for YOU. You have to do your own research and create the plan that works for you.)

Dawn's Be More Mindful of
How You Fuel Your Body
Over The Holidays Plan

1. Drink more water.
Cut out soda completely.

2. Eat more veggies and fruit. Limit meat.

3. Eat only one processed thingy a day.
Translation = something sweet/corn syrupy. (Single portion.)

3. Take one day "off" from the plan each week.
Eat what I want, when I want. Three pizzas? Great. Two ham sandwiches? Great. Four cupcakes? Don't mind if I do. But that's it: one day--and then it's back to cleaner eating. (My day off will be Sunday. Unless it's a Fast Sunday at church, then you better believe I'm banking my free day.)

4.) Exercise M-F.
Weight train 40 minutes 3-4 times a week. Do cardio 20 minutes M-F. Do 130 sit-ups M-F. (#4 is a twist on the Body for Life program Bill Phillips created back in 1980. So is #3--the free day idea. While I don't know Bill Phillips, I have read his book. I found mine at the library--along with 2.8 million other health books. For some reason this one stuck with me.)

5.) Meditate 20 minutes a day.
I figure I should try to detox my noodle while I'm detox my diet.

6.) Exfoliate.
This probably has nothing to do with my health plan, but I have to include it. Why? Because I love clean skin. And it makes me want to take better care of my whole body when I have happy, good-smelling skin. (Sidenote: If you ever go a lot of days without a shower, you'll know what I'm talking about.)

So, that's it!

Easy-peasy, right?

Probably not. But that's okay. (And note: I'll be tweaking this as the days go by.)

But my point!

It's a start.

And that's all it takes: a start.

Oh, and I thought I'd share my homemade soapbar idea with you--so you can exfoliate, too. (I think I originally got this idea from a kids' magazine at the dentist's office.)

Homemade Fun Exfoliating Soaps

Materials:

Wool roving (craft store, near the crochet things).

Soap (any bar soap you like)

Directions:

1. Take strands of wool roving, wrap it around soap. (Any color combo.)

2. Soak bar/roving in water and mold it around the bar--for about 5 minutes (until the fibers kind of blend or get matted together).

3. Let soap dry on a plate.

Once dried, the wool kind of shrinks and then you are left with a bar of soap that gently exfoliates.

Cool, no?

********

Ahhhhhhhhh! And if you're still reading . . . tomorrow is Survivor.

That's right. I nearly forgot. (Halloween candy hangover. Ugh. See, there's a reason I need to cut back on the junk; it clouds my thinking.)

Well, I know I'm biased, and clearly I love the game/show, BUT I mean it when I say that this episode (#8) is more dramatic than the last. I can't wait to see it. (Can that be possible? Yup.)

I'll talk more Survivor tomorrow. (Hopefully, CBS will post some photos of the challenge, etc., today--then I can share.)
