A Day Off From Survivor . . . Or So I Thought!

Our favorite pumpkin patch, 6 years counting.

Our lives are pretty Survivor-focused right now (and have been, really, for over a year--because I began training for the show/game in April of 2010).

And while all of the Survivor Fun IS fun, I am still trying to keep our lives focused on family and the kids.

So, what better way to take a time-out from Mom's On TV and Trying to Win a Million Dollars than to stop at the local pumpkin patch and spend some family time in the sunshine, running through corn mazes and picking out  jack-o-lanterns.

Right?

Pumpkins. Corn Mazes. They have nothing to do with Survivor.

Or so I thought.

Because upon arrival at said-pumpkin patch, three of our daughters start whoop-whooping (yes, it runs in family):

"Mom, they have wheelbarrows . . . want us to show you how to work one?"

It's like a wheelbarrow graveyard. Wheelbarrows everywhere!

Really? Does the first place I go--day after the Fred Flintstone-like wheelbarrow challenge--have to be a place with more wheelbarrows than I've ever seen in my whole life?

What the honk?

So much for my "Day Off From Survivor."

Life is funny.

PS: To add insult-to-injury, a few pumpkin patch patrons recognized me from the show and started snapping photos once the kids started offering wheelbarrow instructions. I can hardly wait to see those on facebook, "Here's Dawn from Survivor . . . she's still struggling to operate a wheelbarrow!"

Our kids re-enact the challenge. Jr as Ozzy. Papaya as ME.
(Papaya--I don't think I was holding on that tightly.)

Suddenly, these don't look like pumpkins to me . . . but coconuts on the course in the South Pacific.

Ahh . . . some non-game memories! Our 5 youngest.

(In case you're new to the blog, we were able to adopt our kiddos .  . . thus the diversity.)

Our oldest daughter, Bam.

(Although we may change that knickname to Blam, in honor of Survivor Stacey. It's my new favorite expression.)

Our oldest son, Jay. He wanted to drive this vs. take a canned photo in front of it.

No luck there.

PS: Notice the wheelbarrow there? Tiny one. Jay put that there in the frame to be funny.

Our whole tribe. Well, minus Dave-man and I.

(I always feel awkward asking other people to take our picture, so we have a lot of photos of the kids sans-us.)

And that concluded our "Day Off From Survivor" outing.

Fun. And funny.

My kinda day.

For the record, I can push wheelbarrow really well. I mean REALLY well.
