Irony: In This Home We Put Laundry On a Pedestal

Dave and J helping with our latest home improvement project.

I have to be honest, sometimes it's hard for me to reconcile just how different my life is from other people's. I've been this way for most of my life: this thinking about "why do I have clean water and pets who get haircuts while other people have literally next to nothing?"

And while I know there are thousands of ways to make our lives have purpose and to do "good" with the time and circumstances of our lives here on Planet E., but really, it's hard for me to figure these things out.

How do I spend my time and resources? Am I good to others? Am I fair? Generous? Should we really live in a home of X size and have Y number of cars? Should we donate more? Should we help others more? Do I need another pair of shoes? Are our children growing up with an awareness of the world's inequalities?

Ahhhh! It's a little overwhelming.

But my point.

Despite my mental taffy-pulling over these issues, this past week I broke down and bought pedestals for our washer and dryer.

Now, this might not seem like a big deal. (And maybe it really isn't.)

But it was a big deal for me.

It seemed extravagant (nearly $500) to raise your washer and dryer to a height where you don't have to bend down to do the laundry. I mean, can't I bend over and grab a handful of clothes out of a machine that DID the washing for me?

But you know what?

THEY ARE AMAZING!

Like, for me (a person w/ back trouble), LIFE CHANGING.

So I've decided, while I don't ever want to live a life where I put myself on a pedestal, I think washers and dryers should always be on them.

And now, some of this month's memories.

A sweet friend shared this photo from J's sealing way back when he was a baby.
(Psst: "Sealing" = Mormon-speak for a special ceremony where we get to be a forever family.)

Dave traveled to Paris this month for work.
It was a lot of long days indoors, but he was able to spend some time in the city.

Papaya had a birthday!

Dave and the Eiffel Tower.

Papaya at 7am on her bday!

Papaya's cat, Phoebe. She also goes by Mimi. Most hilarious cat.
Reminds me of our cat "Fatty" (Fatji).

Lu and Zu are BFFs. SO grateful for them.
I really think everyone should be an Irish twin.

My BFF Janae celebrated a bday! Coolest gift = her friend Michelle
brought all 31 Flavors from Baskin Robbins. #BucketList

The girls went to the Temple this month.

Zu had a choir performance.

Harriet. Sweet Harriet.

Papaya outdoors with our favorite toddler.

Jr. had his wisdom teeth out. He did great!

And J's gf M was baptized into our church.
It was an awesome day and experience to be part of it.
She's so bright and shiny--kind and happy all the time. We heart her.
