A Happy Birthday


Dave had a great birthday:

He opened gifts, the kids helped me make dinner/steak, Paige made him her family-famous caprese salad (basil, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and balsamic), and then the kids got him this hilarious ice cream cake. 

Psst: Not to make this post about me, but I hope I look as good as Dave when I am 51. Sheesh! Baby face!

It's Time to Detox . . . and Exfoliate!

When I woke up this morning and had one thought: It's time to detox. And I think the launch of the holiday season seems to be the best time to do that. Don't you? (Ha.) Well, I'm not so sure about that. But rather than just "throw in the towel" and let the holiday buffet roll me over, I think I'm simply going to  try to be  more mindful of how I'm fueling my body. So, here's my plan, I call it,  My  " Be More Mindful of How You Fuel Your Body Over The Holidays Plan" (That's a clear and limiting title if I ever heard one.) What exactly does it mean? Rocktober

Jr at age 10. We love love love October! It is probably our favorite month. Yup, even though school is in session, October still beats any summer month. Why? Because Utah is beautiful in the fall. AND because there are so many great activities for the kids in October: hay rides to ride, corn mazes to get lost in, donuts and cider to feast on at Janae's (hint hint), spooky movies to watch (we just bought Creature From the Black Lagoon), haunted houses to tour, haunted train rides to take, jack-o-lantern pizzas to eat, carmel apples to make, soups to stew, and breads to bake! And that doesn't even include the costumes and candy! October is just fantastic in my book. So my point! SO LONG SEPTEMBER--don't let the door hit you on your way out. Hellooooooo October! Where Do You Turn for Peace?

Sunday ZuZu and LuLu had been playing quietly for about 20 minutes when I had that feeling --"hay, they are too quiet." And, being the worrier that my DNA has somewhat predisposed me to be, I ran through about five possible reasons for this extra solitude: 1. They were painting their nails BLUE on the carpet in their room (*and probably painting more of the carpet than their nails). 2. They were in one of their siblings' rooms (*and playing with some electronic device that said-siblings would not be happy about). 3. They were at our neighbor Neola's (*which meant they were safe, but also that I never heard them leave the house who-knows-how-long-ago). 4. They were in the backyard slinging mud on the fence (*which they'd done last week for a good 90 minutes before we noticed. I think ZERO mud made it to the fence.
