Making Exercise a Habit

Today's morning walk with Harriet.
(Day 20 of 84).

I mentioned this last post, but after Survivor (and Elder Meehan leaving on his mission--first kiddo to grow up and move out), I found myself a little "off."

Actually I found myself a lot "off."

I didn't work out regularly.

I didn't work out sporadically.

I didn't even work out quarterly!

And what did I do with that extra time?

Eat, of course! (Mostly bread. White bread with butter.)

Anyway, my point!

Somehow by some cosmic blessing I got the desire and motivation I needed to get back on the horse and return to a healthier state.

I think a little of my motivation came from the realization that NONE of my pants fit. I think the rest of my motivation came from the fact that I had high blood pressure the last 4 times I've been to the Dr. (Prior to that I have always had super low blood pressure.)

The blood pressure thing was a major motivator for me. More so than the non-fitting pants.

And so my major goal was to lower my blood pressure. And of course, to begin working out regularly.

I am 20 days in as of today. Yay!

It's funny, with a fractured foot and torn tendons, it's a challenge to work out. But I am committed to my 84 days of exercise and goal of being more healthy overall. So I am finding ways to do it. I can't do all the things I would do with two feet, but I am able to find some work-arounds.

Oh! And my favorite part about this experience: I started bringing our dog Harriet on my walk each morning. She has become such a fun part of my mornings. I love spending time with her. And I think she likes it, too. You would not believe how happy she is when we get near our lake (the place we walk). It cracks me up.

After a long walk.

So that's what's going on here--trying to hit the reboot on health and fitness.

What's going on for you all?
