So Glad It's May!

Reasons I am SO Glad It's May


1. April felt like one LONG month.

2. Mother's Day is in May and we are grateful for a lot of amazing moms/women in our lives (our moms, birthmoms, grandparents ...).

3. It's our Aunt Beth's bday. (And she is a RAD Aunt.)

 4. It's getting warmer--and we have had one LONG winter. Holy crap it has been a lotta colder days in a row. For a lotta months in a row. BRING THE HEAT.

 5. Cinco de Mayo is in May(o)!

(Like I said, my current obsession with Alaska's Last Frontier has something to do with this.)

Our friends left us these pink lemonade cookies--which were 1500 calories per cookie--
so I ate 2.
I blame my dad for this sweet tooth.
(Maybe I need to just own some of these obsessions.)

I watched a short video last week on how to make our kids a skirt with a yard of fabric ...

so of course I had to make them. Okay, a few of them.

I got this coconut oil because it was on sale and it reminded me of Ozzy from Survivor.
Funny how Survivor is such a major imprint in my life.

Lu and Zu are growing cucmbers from seed. Man, seedlings are fragile.

Jr. and Papaya went to an etiquette night for school and loved it. They ate snails
(I can't spell the French word for it. No spellchecking this AM. Sorry!).

(My favorite part of this is that we made the skirt to match the shirt. And Zu even wore it to church, which apparently struck some random person as odd ... so much so, that he stopped her and said "Why is Spiderman at church?"

To which my overprotective motherly instinct replied, "Boy are you a nurturing neighbor.  SHE'S at church--who cares that Spiderman came with her. [Jerkface.]"

(The jerkface part was just in my head, PS.)

Jr at age 10. We love love love October! It is probably our favorite month. Yup, even though school is in session, October still beats any summer month. Why? Because Utah is beautiful in the fall. AND because there are so many great activities for the kids in October: hay rides to ride, corn mazes to get lost in, donuts and cider to feast on at Janae's (hint hint), spooky movies to watch (we just bought Creature From the Black Lagoon), haunted houses to tour, haunted train rides to take, jack-o-lantern pizzas to eat, carmel apples to make, soups to stew, and breads to bake! What Are You Doing New Year's ... New Year's Eve?

How do you celebrate the New Year? --A trip to NYC to see the crystal ball drop? --An evening out with friends, dancing the night away? --Dinner at your favorite restaurant? --Movie night? As a mother of 6 kids--ranging in ages 16 to 8--it's been a little difficult for me to plan this New Year's Eve celebration. Dave and I were thinking it would be fun to have a fondue party here at home with our kids. You know, melted chocolate, loud music, maybe some card games? It could be fun. (C) 2010, Bella Lately. But, our teenagers don't really want to spend the last minutes of 2011 with their dad, mom, and younger brothers/sisters. (Can't imagine why? I totally wanted to hang out with my parents when I was 16.) Yet, Dave and I really don't want said-teenagers out on the town at all hours of the night WITHOUT their dad, mom and younger brothers/sisters. (LOL.) A Year Ago . . . To THE Day

I was thinking this morning about how much has happened this year! And so, I thought it would be fun to SEE what I posted on October 5th, 2010 --and then contrast it with what is happening  this year on October 5th . THEN: October 5, 2010 --I had just bought a camera to replace my broken camera. (Using a sweet coupon from Costco.)   --Our family went to our favorite pumpkin patch and picked our very own pumpkins off the vine--8 of them.   --My hair was longer. Well, longer in a short style kinda way.   --I was mid-way through my own Survivor "boot camp," going to the gym everyday at 6:30am and 4pm. (SIDENOTE: I did not know whether I'd be going on Survivor 23 at this point. I had been cast the previous year, and then cut, so all of my gym time was really just preparing myself for the possibility of S23.)   --Dave-man was working a 3am-noon shift. FUN. FUN. FUN.
