Silver The Service Hamster

Silver the service hamster, on duty.


A few weeks ago my BFF Janae told me her hamster, Silver, has calming effects on their family/friends.

 To which I said, "Well, he's not a service animal unless he has a Service/ADA vest." 

 How does he know he's "working" vs. "playing"? 

 (If you missed my previous post, I've recently read a book about a service dog--so I'm basically a Google Expert on ADA service animals now. You can ask me anything!)

 Anyway, my point!

 I told our friend Kristi about Janae's hamster and how I wished I could find a tiny vest for Silver--as a joke for Janae.

 To which Kristi said, "Oh, I can totally make him one."

 What the what? 

"People still sew and needlepoint? Kristi, it's 2013!" I asked thought to myself.

 Turns out they totally do!

Kristi made my dream a reality!

 And it's the cutest thing you've ever seen: a bright orange vest, needlpointed name/job title, and a velcro belt to fit around Silver's waist.

 Tell me that's not HILARIOUS?

 I love Kristi, Janae, Silver, and home-seamstressing!

 I swear if you don't see me on Shark Tank pitching these hamster vests one day ... hahahaha.




The vest  doubles as a blanket.

In other news, I learned to make Hummus in the BlendTec this weekend. Woo hoo!


And Dave and I were given tickets to the Parade of Homes. Thanks, Jhan! This was my favorite room--out of all of the homes.


 And Lu cannot stop making this silly face. I found literally 43 photos just like this on my phone this weekend!


And Zu cannot stop taking similar photos of our pets! I found this one and it scared the crap outta me. Tell me it doesn't look like Whitney the cat is doing a play on The Blair Witch Project. Boo!

Is there anything better than time with a book you love? (PS: Jr. loves to read, but I'm pretty sure this scenario was staged. He was teasing me about loving reading more than video games. If we look closely, the book may even be upside down. And it's on Pompei!) Turns out it's always summer when you're a housecat! Bam and Papaya on the kayak at the lake near our home. Survivor 24, A Guinea Pig, And Valentine's '12

Women of Salani tribe. Survivor: One World. (c) CBS, Monty Brinton, 2011. Ahhhh. There's so much to talk about today! First and foremost, tonight is the premiere for Survivor: One World--season 24 , a nd I can't wait--because this season has some great twists.  Redemption Island is gone. The the tribes are separated men vs. women. Hidden Immunity idols have a different "way" of being played (once you find one, it has to be given to someone on the OTHER tribe).  And my most favorite twist: the two tribes are living on ONE beach.  I think the idea of living on the same beach just makes sense, and I would have loved that during our season--because I think it will really help the castaways have a better "read" on ALL of the players. I think  this one twist makes the long game REALLY interesting.  Think of all that Upolu camp life that we/Savaii didn't even know about until the show aired? Brandon and Mikayla? Waiting for the Haunted Train . . .

Two of our daughters, LuLu and ZuZu, waiting for the Haunted Train (last year) 2010. If you love Halloween, Utah has to be one of the best places to live! There are corn mazes o'plenty ,  pumpkin patches the size of football fields (where you cut your pumpkin off the vine), haunted mansions (where zombies chase you with all manner of kitchen utentsils),  decorated porches , neighborhood "witches' tea parties ," and, queue the organ . . . dun dun dun dun . . . the HAUNTED TRAIN RIDE through Provo Canyon . And that last one -- the train ride -- has become one of our family's favorite Halloween traditions. There's just something about hopping on a rikkety old rail car that makes ya yearn to have the living daylights scared out of you! But in a good way.
