Bread: Do You Eat The Heel?
First of all, Jeff Probst is right: last night's episode of Survivor South Pacific was no picnic!
BUT, I lived to see another day! Woo hoo! (PS: Episode 2 is now online at CBS.com. And there are extra scenes online, too. Here's one of me: http://tinyurl.com/3n8jcdd )
PS: Thanks to everyone for watching and sending support. My family, friends, the people I run into at Walmart, BYU, and church peeps. I so appreciate it.
PSS: And yes, I know I need to work on my posture. [Wink wink.]

And now, off to today's post!
Okay, obviously I love Survivor. BUT, before I played the game I was actually a long-time fan of the show.
Why?
Because I think Survivor is an
incredible social experiment:
--seeing how complete strangers create a community.
--seeing how they learn to work together OR not.
--seeing how they manage their relationships when success/money is on the line (a million dollars).
--seeing how they respond to the elements/nature.
--seeing how they balance their own physical and emotional limitations as they live off the land.
--seeing how they run in a dress. (Ha ha ha.)
So many important life questions can be considered as you watch these 18 REAL PEOPLE literally struggle for survival each week.
SO, my thoughts today kinda center around this idea of self vs. community.
HOW DO YOU live your life?
HOW DO YOU balance your needs vs the needs of your community?
HOW DO YOU consider your own survival? DO YOU think of others before yourself?
WHY?
WHEN?
HOW?
(And why so many CAPS?)
And, why am I asking so many questions?
Because this morning, as I went to make a piece of toast, I opened our cupboards and found 4 loaves of bread. (Sidenote: I would have given anything for 4 loaves of bread three months ago in the So. Pacific.)
So as I'm looking in the said four bags of bread this morning, I have one major thought:
ALL of the bread in these bags is nearly gone.
EXCEPT for a few remaining pieces.
Can you guess which pieces of bread were left--in every bag?
Yup, the HEELS!
So here are my Million Dollar Questions today:
1. Do you eat OR leave the heels of bread in your home? WHY? (Heels are healthy? Heels are the "worst" piece?)
2. WHO else eats/leaves the heels of bread in your home? WHY?(Leave the "best" for the rest? Waste not, want not? What's your philosophy? Just glad to have bread?)
3. WHAT does that say about us all if we EAT or DON'T eat the heels?
(A lot? Nothing?)
PS: I eat the heels. Why? I'm still thinking it through. Stay-tuned . . . and stand up straight!
