SPRING It!
Even though it's officially "spring" here in Utah, I don't exactly have a spring in my step.
Yes, we've had some sunny days since October. BUT, generally speaking, we've spent a lot of days indoors.
A lot of days in pants.
A lot of days in (the same) long-sleeved shirts and London-y jackets.
And I'm beginning to feel a little like a hamster who has been storing food in her cheeks . . .
for a long long time : STUFFED!
So, I'm taking matters into my own hands (which is SO unlike me--haha)!
That's it, Old Man Winter.
Here on Hysteria Lane we are ACTING AS IF it is Spring this week.
So, THERE!
That's right.
We're wearing bright colors. We putting on short sleeves and sandals. We're opening up our windows as much as possible. And I may even get out the Tropicana SunTan Oil! (BTW: We'll still put on our jackets, but only when it's absolutely positively necessary.)
BUT most importantly, we're eating GREEN.
Translation = we're going to cut back on all of the bulky, chunky, sugary, carb-heavy foods we've been eating.
That's right. Today's The Kick-Off. For the next 5 days, our family is going to try and cut back on all processed foods.
Think that sounds easy?
Our kids sure do. (But I think that has something to do with the $5.00 BRIBE that I initiated as part of the The Kick-Off. If they can last until Friday at noon without any processed foods, then they earn $5.00. If they drop out, they owe me $5.00. That's how we roll over here. Money is a major incentive. Don't question my methods.) (PS: I stole that line from Cheryse C.--and it makes me laugh out loud everytime I say it.)
Me? I'm a little nervous about The Kick-Off. I know I have self-discipline when the decisions have to do with me--BUT, ask me to deprive one of my kiddos? Oh, it kills me.
Plus, I think we eat a lot of processed foods (white pastas, chips, fruit snacks, goldfish crackers, overly-sweet jellies and jams, frozen pizzas, frozen pockets of who-knows-what, etc.).
I think this is going to be difficult.
But I think it will be worth it.
Check back. I'll be posting our progress all week.
Viva GREEN!

In other news, I'm beginning to make wheat bread. I say "beginning," because I think it takes a long time to figure out a new bread. Like, I'm pretty sure it took me 100 loaves of the white bread before I felt like it tasted right. So, there's a big bread mountain to climb here.
But at least I've started.

Not sure I like cooking the bread in a pan. I really like the round/more rustic loaves. But I'm trying this type as sandwich bread. |
PS: Yes, I think it's a riot that I post photos of the bread on the blog. It's like another member of the family over here. Heaven help. |

Here's how ZuZu spends her Sunday leisure time:
If you don't have a chalkboard wall, I'm telling you--GET ONE! It's so much fun. |
