The Power of Bread
First of all, don't forget to check out the Blog 5 Year Anniversary Giveaways this week
(Monday through Friday).
The odds are SO GOOD. Really, this isn't The Pioneer Woman's blog. LOL!
Yesterday we had fewer than 10 entries. Woo hoo!
PS: I moved the entry details to the tab--menu--at the top of the blog.

Oh little loaves of bread . . . I heart you. |
I would count baking bread among my Top 10 Favorite Things To Do.
I just love baking bread.
In addition to loving the making and eating of bread, everytime I bake, I learn something.
And I love that!
I really think baking bread may be a revelation for me--kind of a "Everything I Ever Needed to Know, I Learned Baking Bread":
Sunshine helps you rise.
Take your time.
Don't worry about imperfections . . . they give you character!
It really doesn't take much to make something wonderful!
etc., etc., etc.
But my point!
I think I love baking bread even more after baking it these last few days.
Why?
Because instead of baking for our family/friends this week, we decided to sell our loaves and donate 100% of the proceeds to the American Red Cross/Japan Tsunami Relief.
And that has been an incredible experience!
Before we began, I was hoping to collect about $40.00 in donations ($3.00 a loaf = all $3.00 to the Red Cross. Our family would donate our time baking/delivering--and the ingredients.).
It didn't seem like a huge donation, but I felt like I/our family should be doing something for Japan. (I mean, just one image of the devastation was enough to make me want to go back to school and be an EMT or nurse.)
But wow did we exceed our goal!
We baked 52 loaves in two days.
And most people contributed MORE than the $3.00 per loaf amount. (Yee hoo!)
Then, once we got baking, Dave called to say that his employer--Adobe--would match our donations (To the Red Cross) 2:1.
2:1
So in other words, each $3.00 donation turned to $9.00 with Adobe's gift.
Is that incredible?
With Adobe's help, just a few loaves of bread AND people's BIG HEARTS . . .
we are going to be contributing a little over $600.00 to the Tsunami Relief Effort.
I'm still dying over the whole experience (and still sneezing flour, PS).
Thank you to everyone that bought bread and contributed!
We heart you!
And, extra special thank you to Dave and our kids--who put in a lot of hours baking, mixing, cleaning up (overflowing dough), and delivering. I love you!
PS: We used 75 lbs of flour in two days. |
