I thought it would be fun to list some of my favorite Thanksgiving memories--at least the ones I can still remember!


Thanksgiving Memories

* Mincemeat and Pecan Pies made by grandma Dottie (what is mincemeat?).

* Thanksgiving at Aunt Yvonne's--with my 10 year-old brother taking the last serving of stuffing, along with the first serving. (Meaning . . .  he took it all.)

* Square Jello served on lettuce at Great Gma Maebelle's house.

* Jamie's warm artichoke dip.

* The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

* My mom doing someone's hair--at the person's home--on Thanksgiving, just to be nice. (And taking me along. I was a kid.)

* My mom's stuffing with sage sausage.

* Mary's deep fried turkey. That was my first Thanksgiving spent with Dave.
(Still, the best turkey ever. And I don't mean DAVE--the turkey.)

* Thanksgiving here in Utah with my family (and them driving up with Jordy!).

* Garlic Mashed Potatoes.

* Our first Thanksgiving married--at the Needles' house in Chatsworth, CA. (Dave's mom brought her pies in a pie basket!)

* Turkey Bowl football with the Carbon Canyon Ward.

* Going to the movies Thanksgiving night with Jonah, Camry and Kaya. (Toy Story 1, Bug's Life, Toy Story 2).

* Our first Thanksgiving with Jr. and LuLu--and taking them to the Drive-Thru Christmas Light Display in Spanish Fork, UT.

* Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

* Homemade rolls.

* Black Friday at Target and Sports Authority 2008.

* Uncle Bob and Marie Calendar pies.

* Sledding down the Greenspace near our home in Utah.

 . . . and more for sure.

Jr at age 10. We love love love October! It is probably our favorite month. Yup, even though school is in session, October still beats any summer month. Why? Because Utah is beautiful in the fall. AND because there are so many great activities for the kids in October: hay rides to ride, corn mazes to get lost in, donuts and cider to feast on at Janae's (hint hint), spooky movies to watch (we just bought Creature From the Black Lagoon), haunted houses to tour, haunted train rides to take, jack-o-lantern pizzas to eat, carmel apples to make, soups to stew, and breads to bake! And that doesn't even include the costumes and candy! October is just fantastic in my book. So my point! SO LONG SEPTEMBER--don't let the door hit you on your way out. Hellooooooo October! What Are You Doing New Year's ... New Year's Eve?

How do you celebrate the New Year? --A trip to NYC to see the crystal ball drop? --An evening out with friends, dancing the night away? --Dinner at your favorite restaurant? --Movie night? As a mother of 6 kids--ranging in ages 16 to 8--it's been a little difficult for me to plan this New Year's Eve celebration. Dave and I were thinking it would be fun to have a fondue party here at home with our kids. You know, melted chocolate, loud music, maybe some card games? It could be fun. (C) 2010, Bella Lately. But, our teenagers don't really want to spend the last minutes of 2011 with their dad, mom, and younger brothers/sisters. (Can't imagine why? I totally wanted to hang out with my parents when I was 16.) Yet, Dave and I really don't want said-teenagers out on the town at all hours of the night WITHOUT their dad, mom and younger brothers/sisters. (LOL.) It's Time to Detox . . . and Exfoliate!

When I woke up this morning and had one thought: It's time to detox. And I think the launch of the holiday season seems to be the best time to do that. Don't you? (Ha.) Well, I'm not so sure about that. But rather than just "throw in the towel" and let the holiday buffet roll me over, I think I'm simply going to  try to be  more mindful of how I'm fueling my body. So, here's my plan, I call it,  My  " Be More Mindful of How You Fuel Your Body Over The Holidays Plan" (That's a clear and limiting title if I ever heard one.) What exactly does it mean? Well, bear with me.  I'm not a dietician (but I play one on my blog), so I'm piecing together said-plan using 3 years of college life science courses, a shelf full of library books, a few O!
