My Favorite Things--Most Recent Edition

In one of the books I'm reading the author suggests keeping a grocery receipt as part of a journal entry--so your family/posterity has some unique insight into the ABCs of you.

I guess there's really a lot more to a receipt than I realized.

You see, with a receipt you can see what time of day people shop, where they shop, how they pay for their purchase, what items they purchase, whether the items were name brand or "plain wrap" . . . and so much more!

Well, I like the receipt/journal entry idea.

But I'm not sure I want my posterity to have to make assumptions about my motivation for buying "Juicy-Juice Apple Juice" or "purple spider webs" at Target at ten minutes to 10:00pm on a Saturday night.

I'd rather just say, "I liked to buy juice on sale. And remember . . . I don't drink juice, our kids did. So don't go thinking I was a juice fan. I was no juice fan, ya hear me great-great-great-great grandkids."

But my point!

I do like the idea of documenting our lives . . .

I'm just not convinced my posterity will care as much about my life as I DO. LOL!

You see, I think I record my life because it helps ME better understand ME. (And if that happens to be of interest to my George Jetson grandkids, then double-bonus.)

So, with that unnecessarily long intro, I'd like to skip the receipt idea and just simply record my most recent favorite things. (Though I'd like to reserve the right to change my mind on the receipt idea in the future.)

My Most Recent Favorite Things

* Dave installing a new hard drive on my computer.
(Thank you Dave; thank you Dell. I can't believe how different life is without a laptop. It's hilarious to see how often you think, "Google that. Bank online. Email family. Etc.")

* Reading with ZuZu and LuLu yesterday.

* Waking up this morning at 3:30am and grading 34 papers.
(I was literally losing sleep over this, so I just got up and "ate the frog." It was a relief to have it done. I'm so glad I just got it over with . . . and went back to bed.)

* Having lunch with Dave at Cafe Rio Tuesday.
(I had never had a steak salad before. Hello. Loved that!)

* Getting a shirt at Walmart for $3.00.
(Though I do really dislike that I went to Walmart. It makes me sad for some reason. The lighting. The workers waving as I walk in. I have to go to my Happy Place when I'm there.)

* Jay taking out our trashcans; Jr. taking out our neighbor's.
(Thank you!)

* Realizing that TOMORROW is Week 12 of working out for me.
(Working out 5-6 days a week--without fail. Is that crazy? I'm so dying.)

* Making Pumpkin Spice Granola yesterday.
(Though, I'll admit NO ONE in our family eats granola except me. Boo hoo. It's not as much fun to make things if other people don't eat them too.).

* Reading Nie Nie's blog http://www.nieniedialogues.com/.
(I feel like there's so much negative news, I can't take it. Blogs seem to be the one place I can go to get a more balanced view of life. People tend to mention a lot more good with the bad on blogs, while the news just mentions the bad it seems.)

* Reading The Pioneer Woman's blog, http://www.thepioneerwoman.com.
(Same as above. Just. Plain. Good. Fun. And. Recipes!)

* Having a day off of work.
(Some days I get in a negative frame of mind and think, "work is no fun." But then I realize, "I love my job AND I get some days off each week. That's a good thing. I'm blessed.")

* Hearing the rain outside my window right now.

* Talking on the phone to Christine yesterday.
(I laughed the whole time. It was like therapy. Seriously.)

* Watching Glee.
(Though the whole "Does God Exist?" topic still gives me a Woody-Allen-existential-crisis feeling. Still . . . the cast is just so dang likable. Makes ya wanna sing, no?)

* Putting soup in a Thermos for the kids' lunches yesterday.
(Their school doesn't have a cafeteria, so I love packing soup! Whoever invented the Thermos is a genius!)

* Seeing our neighbors' BEAUTIFUL new baby.
(And realizing that your skin is really loose when you are firstborn. It's like a suit! Get it: a birthday suit.)

* Seeing the colors on the mountains here in Utah.
(And appreciating that my office has a window . . . facing them.)
